EU adopts humanitarian exemption to Afghanistan sanctions

While Afghanistan is witnessing a severe financial and humanitarian crisis, the European Union has revised its sanctions regime against Afghanistan to include a humanitarian exemption. The EU followed the UN's adoption of a humanitarian exemption to Taliban-related sanctions on 22 December 2021.

It also reported that under the new EU exemptions, it will allow Afghanistan's frozen assets to be used for the provision of humanitarian assistance and other activities that support basic human needs in the country or to support such activities.
